RainbowLand: Sprites

I've been thinking about Rainbow Brite and the Sprites. Really, the sprites are
little more then slaves. They're forced into labor to mine the color
crystals for the color kids. Sprites eat the color crystals, in fact, their
homeworld is little more then a giant crystal.

I loved Sprites. I had all of them, but they were destroyed in a house fire.
The thing is, the show never really explained how the first few sprites,
including Twink, ever got to RainbowLand or why. It's explained that the Sprites come from the planet Spectra- but they never explain why the Sprites in Rainbowland left their homeworld. Was their some kind of Sprite/Color
Kids war and they were taken prisoner or some such?

In the first episode, Twink and his fellow sprites seem to be trapped in some
kind of grayscale hell. Whenever Twink decided to rebel against the powers
that be, the other sprites chide him and say that the Sprites follow the
color kids. Twink stands in defiance of them and says, "Not this Sprite. I
follow Rainbow Brite!" All the other sprites act like he's real tough sh*t
for that.

And yet, Starlight mistreats Twink. He has once kicked him out a 3rd
story window, and another time down a well. I don't know what that shit is
about, but the color kids and Twink seem to treat the sprites like 3rd class
citizens, even though without them their society would basically fall apart.
